Gran Eye is a scoring system for steel tip dart boards. This mostly eliminates the math when playing darts alone or with others.
It allows you to play alone or with friends (in person), and against other players online from all over the world. Some of those players are likely to become friends as well.
This was my setup before installing Gran Eye. It is a perfectly acceptable setup with a quality sisal dartboart and a thick felt backer board to protect the wall from errant darts.
To keep score using this board, I was using a whiteboard with dry-erase markers. This is a very common whay to keep score.
There are electronic scoring systems, you can purchase at a reasonable cost, which require you to put in the result of your throw manually and the scoreboard does the math then displays the result. Some even suggest the best double to chose as your "double out" in games which require it.
This is my current setup which includes a Gran Eye scoring system and a Target Darts Corona Vision Dartboard Lighting System. The Gran eye works well with any board lighting that provides sufficient illumination but I feel like the Corona lighting system helps the scoring system by elininating shadows that might confuse it.
The phone holder is optional too. You can play online without a camera to show you throwing but many don't want to play if you don't have a camera pointed at you.
You can also play agianst folks with a Granboard soft tip board with its built in scoring system.
In fact, you can theoretically play Gran Eye online with no scoring system at all. You can punch in your score manually.
So far, I like the Gran Eye system and have found it to be at least 90% accurate when scoring. When it scores incorrectly, it is very simple to let it know your actual result and let the program update to the correct score.
I have played online games with it. So far, I have only played others in the US but I have seen folks from Germany, Japan, England, Scotland, and Ireland waiting for games in the "lobby".
My favorite part of the system are the games found in the practice section. The best way to improve is to play somone better than you on a regular basis but I truly feel these practice games have improved my game.
The Gran Eye support team give me the impression that they truly care about improving the product and are very responsive to questions.
The game instructions can be a little confusing. Check out the "Gran Eye Games" button in the menu for my take on the rules. I am not getting paid by Gran Eye so I may not make a lot of progress in a hurry, but I hope that what I write helps. I'd like to see many more people joining the Gran Eye community.
